ZOMG #SingaporeGangsterCat just did it! He pressed a talking button! The one for "Play!" It took him almost 6 weeks!

I don't know if it was a fluke, but we got a great play session out of it anyway.

I can't wait for him to do it again!

It's wild to me still that Gravy managed to connect the dots so well so quickly. I knew he would likely learn faster than a puppy because he's already an adult, intelligent, and knows many cues. I had no idea it would be such a fast turnaround before he used a button on his own though!

Morning and afternoon, we spent more time modelling "tug" and "all done," as well as modelling "walk" for the first time.

At night, I was on my computer when I heard it, my own voice coming from a button on the mat a few feet behind me, cheerfully saying "tug!" I whipped around, and saw Gravy standing at the buttons. He was holding a tug toy. I repeated "tug" back to him, praised him, and played tug with him. I'm so proud!

On 6/20/23, I started training Gravy to use the talking pet button mat offered by companies like #HungerForWords (HfW) and #FluentPet (FP). While my preference would be to have the FP boards, there is no way I can afford them.

Gravy's first words are centering around play, as that is what he tends to bark as a way to get my attention for. He wants to play, but half the time I can't tell what he wants to play with, and we both leave a bit frustrated.

#SingaporeGangsterCat still seems profoundly uninterested in the #FluentPet buttons. But I'm rereading How Stella Learned to Talk now, and it seems even a clever puppy took two weeks to show signs of noticing them. And my cat is not a fast learner, except in extremis. It took him over a year to use the cat door for my bedroom, since the door was always propped for him. So I'll have to be prepared for a similar time frame here.

Made a couple of changes in #SingaporeGangsterCat's #FluentPet setup.

1. I changed "outside" to "open window". It will be much less tiring for me to follow through on that one whenever he's interested. And we haven't been able to do outside time at a time that works for both him and me lately.

2. I have distributed the three buttons to appropriate locations. Since he's not going to be combining words meaningfully any time soon, we don't need to centralise them yet.

I'm a big fan these days of videos of "talking" cats. They've been trained to use sound emmitting buttons assigned words to communicate. It's fascinating to watch over time as they develop skills. One of my favorites is Elsie, cat of writer (and many other things) @maryrobinette. Though I usually watch on #Instagram you'll find at least some some of her videos on her timeline. Go watch. We'll discuss.

Jour…11 ? Enfin !! Après un entraînement individuel cette fois, tous les deux chats ont appuyé suffisamment fort d’eux-même pour déclencher le signal sonore!! Trop fier ils progressent !! (Et toujours à réclamer le matin ahah) Loki n’en pouvait plus d’entendre son frère s’entraîner sans lui au début x)

Aujourd'hui les chats étaient : indignés x)
Loki (gris) parce que je lui demande d'attendre que son frère appuie sur le bouton. Yoongi (noir) frustré parce que son frère réussit mieux que lui donc plus de récompenses et JE VAIS PAS ASSEZ VITE LE MATIN POUR METTRE LES BOUTONS OH LAA. Quant à Aya (rousse)...elle était FURAX que je daigne la forcer à utiliser sa patoune au lieu de lui donner direct une friandise mdr. L'école se rebelle.

A peu près jour 8 d'entraînement, ça stagne un peu même si Aya (tout à gauche) a rejoint le game depuis hier d'elle-même !
Ils ont encore beaucoup de mal à appuyer vraiment sur les boutons, ça tictic trop doucement ;w; En tous cas ils sont à FOND pour me demander des sessions le matin limite je me fais harceler pour mettre les boutons en place ahah #FluentPet #catofmastodon
