I wasn't aware that this was originally a New England thing, but if you're of a certain age and grew up in the northeastern part of the US (New Jersey, in my case), you probably had a fluffernutter sandwich. It's peanut butter and marshmallow fluff on white bread. Yeah, it's sickeningly sweet and I have fond memories of them at my grandmother's house in the early '70s (incidentally where I saw my first episode of Doctor Who on PBS.)
