It might look a bit chaotic, but everything usually ends up exactly where it needs to be for that particular job. The bigger the job, the messier it tends to get.
Once done, everything gets tidied up back to its place till the next job, when specific tools drift back to their necessary place for the duration.

Today's flute update.
Drilled out the toneholes, or rather cut them out with a burr and sanded them back with a Dremmel.
A mill might have been more straightforward but I don't have one!
Still, in the spirit of exploring and trying new things, it's worked fairly well.
Also been cutting inserts to fill the new holes.
They'll be a bit proud but then the remains of the blocks still need flattening and I'll also be sanding back the polished finish back too.

For what it's worth, here's the rest of the instrument, tenon rings removed.
All keys except for the footjoint have long gone and even some of the key blocks are missing so proposing to remove all keywork traces ( except the footjoint), fill the toneholes and revert it back to a simple D flute.

Doing some pottering in the workshop today.
This is a headjoint for a no-named, 8keyed flute of dubious quality. The wood was cracked down its length owing to shrinkage over the metal inner tube and one method of repair is to remove the liner, all the wood to recover and close up the crack before gluing, filling and stabilising the crack, enlarging the bore the refitting the liner.

A typical #BBQ ensued. Bellies were filled. Kids were having a blast. Then the instruments started coming out of the woodwork. Traditional #flutes, #drums, turtle-shell rattles. It was time to jam.
Being the new guy, everyone wanted to hear what I could do, so I started playing some mellow jazzy arrangements I'd been toying with. They worked really well as a backing to Looking Wolf's soulful flute, meanwhile a #Morrocan percussionist named Joseph Baidou was bringing a whole different vibe👇
