Cherry Run
- a tributary of West Branch Brandywine Creek, PA
This tributary was my 2nd target on Saturday 😊
Unlike Birch Run, which also converges into WB Brandywine half a mile upstream, this tributary’s water is only 1˚ C/2˚ F colder (Birch Run was 5˚ C/9˚ F colder) than the mainstream 🤔
A bit disappointed, but I checked this tributary a little bit, and decided to walk along the WB Brandywine 😊

Chambers Lake, PA
After some bushwhacking along the cool water Birch Run, I saw a open space and Chambers Lake. There were people boating, fishing, and picnicking – very relaxing Saturday😊
Cold water is released from the bottom of this lake into Birch Run which is cold and refreshing, but not this lake at least its surface - I cast my fly line several times but decided to check another tributary of West Branch Brandywine Creek😉

Can’t. I’m tying flies…
I also have several old Mac laptops/desktops (even the first generation titanium), somehow I haven’t been able to get rid of them although I am usually good at trashing/removing things that I don’t need 🤔 ah- I also have problems in getting rid of my old fly fishing gears 😐

Birch Run
-Tributary of West Branch Brandywine Creek, PA
This stream was my target today, cool water: 17C/63F, noon, while WB Brandywine at its mouth is much warmer (~22C/72F)😉
The water is coming from the bottom of Chamber Lake. Many small fish were rising, jumping on my flies - I could not get any of them, I should’ve used smaller flies - I didn't bother changing☺️
My feet got cold as I wade with sandals. Refreshing on a hot summer day😊

West Branch Brandywine Creek, PA
This is a kind of creek that I love, at least this section with many boulders and fast currents. I felt my childhood creeks in Japan (a bit)😊
Water: 21.5C/71F, 10:30am
I should come back later this month when the water is cooler😉
I saw several big brown trout that are probably survivors from spring stocking🤔
There are nice walking trails along the creek within the Hibernia County Park, Chester County😊

Made it to the Little Tennessee River in NC this afternoon. Thought I was fishing for trout, but I guess the water is too warm. As usual, I photographed the first, but the subsequent fish were larger.

Lesser Pine Katydid, maybe 🤔
I couldn’t tell from google lens 😅
This was quietly sitting so close to us – I was thinking about a grasshopper pattern that I have in my car, but I did not fly fish 😉
Instead, I just took a picture of this grasshopper with Big Bearhole Pond in the background 😊

I am sort of grateful that I work on the 11th floor, so that I can get some exercise every restroom break as I am sitting at my desk all day😉
It’s been 8 days since last time I fly fished – rain is forecast towards the weekend. I might do fly tying instead…but additional sitting is not helping me. I can buy flies to save time, but I can’t buy fishing activity to save time… hopefully, I get to fish this weekend😉

Summer fishing is great – I like sandal wading, but fall fishing is also great, though…I also like winter fishing as I don’t have to wake up early 😉
Unfortunately, that is about every morning for me - even worse when I wake up in the middle of night…
That is probably why I fly fish…

Water corridor to Big Bearhole Pond
Spent some free time after youth soccer games before the team dinner 😊
One of dads told me about this lake close to our hotel, we both thought of fishing, and we both had the equipment, but we decided not to - also did not want to pay a lot for non-resident fishing license for only a couple of hours or even less😉
This park seems to be a great place to relax 🤔

I was talking about Davy, which I never done 😊
I only use clinch for hook-to-line these days, so anything simpler would be nice 😉
I agree that the blood not is great, so straight 😊 But I also do this at home when I feel like it 😉
And yes, I also use surgeon knots (double for me) on the water as this is much simpler especially with cold hands 😊
BTW, for hook-to-line, I used to do improved clinch knots, but now, simply, the clinch knot (with a bit longer tag) 😊
I might be getting lazier and lazier 🤔
This is a nice thread for #FlyFishing 😊
As a person who started as a tenkara-style angler, I still use this kind of things for both Japanese and Western styles 😉 BTW, I love tippet rings - for my most common rigging, the first half of my leaders are tapered, then a ring, and the second half is a long tippet (obviously, level line), so that a sliding barrel knot can be added if needed for dry-dropper 😉

Kids always want to throw rocks (at least my kids) 🤔
There is a nice walking trail around this pond 😊
Fishing is allowed, although I did not do so 😉

Barbless… it isn’t just for fish
Anglers should use barbless hooks - YES 👍
“The fish themselves will thank you (for using barbless hooks for catch-and-release)” - NO 👎 the fish never thank anglers - how can they thank us for dragging them around while fishing?
Nevertheless, I agree that we should use barbless hooks even for catching them for dinner as we may also catch fish that are not suitable for eating (size etc…)😉

Pumpkin spice glass beads for pumpkin spice sunfish. For some reason, I start seeing these warmouth sunfish late summer into early fall.
I caught it on a new-to-me Fenwick FF70 7' 5-6 weight fiberglass fly rod that has the date 7/7/70 written on the rod tube. The glass beads came from a bead shop in Athens Ohio. One of the feathers came from a pheasant, and the other came from my new ratty rooster skin.

Not really for me, but big trout tend to feed more during night especially in summer - people who want to catch those big ones use something that standout in dark 🤔
But dusk is usually very productive especially with dry flies 😊
Not really a zen thing, I simply don't want to leave the stream like a child 😉
@HikerGeek @TimKStanton @onelin
I occasionally fly fish after sunset - wading becomes dangerous even at dusk. I shouldn’t fly fish, but sometimes I just want to stay there…
