A fun thing passing our bedroom window this morning.

The Flying Scotsman steaming down into Exeter.

Built 100 years ago in 1923 it was the first locomotive to reach the officially authenticated speed of 100 miles per hour (161 km/h), and still going strong!

A3 4472/60103 #FlyingScotsman heads a steam special through #HaydonBridge on the Tyne Valley Railway on 2 July 2016. Today marks the centenary of this legendary locomotive designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built at Doncaster for the LNER.

I love these old railway posters. And there’s something really sleek about this one for The Flying Scotsman. There was something romantic about travelling by train in the old days. There's a chapter early on (as there should be!) dealing with some of the history of #London pubs. Chris has Arthur and his team drinking in the Scottish Stores on the Caledonian Rd. When I was a lad (c.1990), it was the #FlyingScotsman, a dingy, seedy little pub that doubled as a strip joint, but served a cheap pint of Tennents lager in their down time. It was also a handy stop-off point to and from York Way and the 'Church,' home to a generation of #Aussie, #Kiwi & #SouthAfrican backpackers.
