I finally finished the Fuzzy Mitten 2023 Mystery Knitalong! #FMMKAL2023

I moved from the chilly Northeast of the USA to sub-tropical Florida and so all of my bulky yarn is in a storage unit... But the movers accidentally left a bin of worsted weight wool, so I did the best I could with what I had, using 4.5 mm needles and 4 mm needles instead of 5.5 mm and 5 mm.

I was left with one minor conundrum... (Poll in next post)

Here's the finished toy from my mystery knit-along: a mammoth! (Or maybe a mastodon, I don't think there's much of a difference for a knitted toy 😉 )

One thing I forgot to mention about the #FMMKAL2023! Like many Fuzzy Mitten patterns, the parts are knitted flat before stuffing and seaming. The previous photos were before stuffing and seaming; the photos below are an approximation of what the final Mystery Plush will look like. Does this change your opinion?

Barbara Prime (Fuzzy Mitten) is a knitting designer who makes cute quirky knitted toy patterns.

I signed up for the #FMMKAL2023, a Mystery Knit-a-long where I receive weekly "clues" or instructions without knowing what the final result will be.

The list of required materials included bulky yarn, 5.5 mm needles, and 12 mm safety eyes.

When I moved from Massachusetts to Florida, I sent all my bulky yarn to the storage unit, so I'm using worsted weight and 4 mm needles. But which eyes to use?

Fuzzy mitten mystery knit a long week 2!

This really does look like I made a tater. I still need to add eyes for real & fully sew up the end but I’m gonna wait til it’s further along. Got to do more mattress stitch (I’m improving). There are decreases & purl bumps & such that indicate shaping but so far it’s still a mysterious lump to me!

Can’t wait for the next clue!

Week one of the fuzzy mitten mystery knit a long! It’s a small companion doll to the main mystery toy. I had some Lion brand cotton bonbons that were perfect for this though I did lose yarn chicken on the doll’s arm (two tiny rows! but, hidden in pocket). I decided to embroider eyes rather than wait to order safety eyes. And I love how the hair texture turned out (unplied a super bulky yarn). Added a little necklace.
