New day — new (old) track.
Music concept for a small indie game in style of games from old Japanese computers like PC-98 or Sharp X68000. I used mostly Korg M1 and FM software synths.

I keep coming back to this track, it's just so insanely GOOD

@etherdiver that may have been different at other times, but to me, korg.com currently shows it on the (mobile) front page. Quite a way down, far below the "SE" and the software version, but it's not exactly hidden.
The desktop site also lists it under "Products -> Synthesizers/Keyboards", not too far down. So not sure why that rumour started.

@etherdiver "So I guess it isn't discontinued!": for what it's worth, #Thomann lists the original #opsix as "in stock": https://www.thomann.de/gb/korg_opsix.htm
The new one, not yet.

@etherdiver when I first saw the #opsix in action in a video I thought damn, finally someone got the programming interface for 6-op FM right. Took only 40 years.

HQ redux of the Bay Area BGM from Final Fight. Made with Dexed and some of the original uncompressed samples used by the Capcom sound team (sourced from the Roland U-110 synth and the Roland R-8 drum machine).
New vid on the 8 bit Manshed. Finally addressing that Yamaha CX5M MSX that @RMCRetro kindly sent back in 2021 https://youtu.be/82kicDRhu5I

FM Stuff #4: Marble Madness (Arcade)
Marble Madness was not only one of the earliest arcade games to use FM sound hardware, it's also one of the earliest games *that I'm personally aware of* with an original, full-length OST. I'm envious of ppl that got to hear this on its original '84 release; the instrumentation is incredible for the time, and there's a great richness to the sound in spite of the simple melodies.

FM Stuff #2: Streets of Rage 3 (Mega Drive)
While SoR3's soundtrack may be very divisive to this day, it's both my favorite of the series, as well as one of my favorite OSTs ever. Its composers took inspiration from harder techno styles and utilized algorithmic composition technique to create an OST that's hard, abrasive, intense, and euphoric; at times, it almost sounds like gabber music as filtered through Philip Glass repetitive structures.
FM Stuff #1: X Multiply (Arcade)
An Irem-developed shoot-em-up game released in Japan in 1989, X Multiply has you piloting a microscopic ship inside a human body and fighting parasitic aliens. It's a dark, dreary trek through a body horror nightmare, and the music is equally dark, yet enthralling and beautiful. The title track in hits particularly hard, giving an intense, heavy vibe to the strange journey ahead.
