Does anyone who was at #FNF2022 have a contact for Andreas who ran the privacy.txt session? We spoke about following up on it (I'd like to discuss it with the Civi community at the Manchester sprint in October) but the twitter ac @reg_nerd seems to have vanished (or I wrote it down wrong).

After hearing about the EU's planned #AIAct during #fnf2022 was interesting to learn today from https://openfuture.eu about the RAIL license which has been created to govern the BLOOM natural language processing engine. It's open but "adds extensive use restrictions, aimed at curbing harmful uses" — https://bigscience.huggingface.co/blog/the-bigscience-rail-license. Ethically restricted open licenses don't seem a terrible approach to try to limit harms faster than the speed of regulation.

Learning about #ChatControl at #fnf2022 was reminded of the story last month of a man whose google ac was shut down after he'd sent a medical photo of his son's groin to their doctor & an AI had flagged it as CSAM. Even after learning of its mistake Google refused to lift the ban https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/aug/22/google-csam-account-blocked.

#ChatControl is draft EU legislation with laudable goal of ending the sharing of CSAM – but has so many negative consequences & risks. Saw a huge and vivid butterfly outside the European Parliament today with the #fnf2022 delegation. Imagined an embassy of butterflies putting forward their best over and over: 'One day one of us will flap our wings, and it will change the world'.

Some of the #FnF2022 participants are now meeting MEP Saskia Bricmont (Belgian Greens) in the EP in Brussels.

#FnF2022 participants were received by MEPs @echo_pbreyer and @ErnstCornelia at the European Parliament in Brussels today.

They introduced themselves and answered questions from their visitors. Both are asking for continued input from the #DigitalRights and #privacy community.

Smaller meetings with MEPs are held now.

On my way to visit the European Parliament with a delegation of #FreedomNotFear. After many amazing sessions on digital rights over the weekend we will talk to MEPs to make our voices heard and hear their perspectives.
