I'm not a great early riser so I don't photograph sunrises often but since it's Saturday morning in Europe, here's one for those who are already or still awake. :)

This is from May 2020, when the sun rose over the rim of Highland Valley and illuminated ground fog in the San Dieguito River floodplain. Cheers!

Fog in the desert is pretty surreal and amazing. I made this photo a few years ago during a January hike, when an inversion had the desert thoroughly covered in fog. We watched it burn off from a ridge and reveal the amazing shapes of the Carrizo Badlands below us.

Foggy full moon with Torrey Pine trees in coastal chaparral and blooming White Coast Ceanothus; Del Mar, California; February 2017.

The Torrey Pine (Pinus torreyana) is one of the rarest pine trees on Earth; it only grows in a small coastal stretch of San Diego. A sub-species grows on Santa Rosa Island.

It's another (at least for me, on Mastodon — it's all clear-skied and sunny here in Southern California) so here's a solitary Torrey Pine in dense coastal fog, photographed in spring of 2017, when the coastal — that's the shrubs in the foreground — is prettiest. You can see tiny little yellow dots there, which are the flowers of a Bush Poppy.

These are Torrey Pines (Pinus torreyana) in morning fog. They're among the rarest pine trees on the planet, growing in California on a small leftover patch of the San Diego Coast, and a subspecies on Santa Rosa island.
