Finally danced again at practice last night after about five months off following a strained Achilles tendon - twice through teaching/leading Deformed Rabbit (our version of Tinners’) then one and a half times through fairly vigorous Upton/Chingford stick dances.
Surprisingly unbroken, and quite pleased with that :-)

Upton (Chingford) Stick Dance a couple of times through on an ?8kg Hohner Ouverture is certainly a work out for the left arm. I may end up looking like a lopsided gorilla.

Since I’m between cargo bikes at the moment, I took my normal commuter bike down to the #Folklife festival. Gotta say, it was refreshingly nimble…

One of yesterday’s goings on was the left hand strap screw pulling out and the right one coming loose on my concertina, just as the seven day trial period was running out. The seller gave me some advice though and under a minute with a matchstick and knife seems to have remedied it this morning. The spills I packed the holes with were even thinner/smaller than the ones in the photo. Propelling pencil for scale (based on the lead!).

Yesterday went well, if somewhat melting at points such as on the sun-blasted market square (where we cut the set short in the afternoon). What will I do today? I know, go to a broiler of a village hall to play some music at CamFrench! Hope that my NSP behave in the warm as I find the D minor tunes a complete pain on the box…

So, having borrowed a modern A.C. Norman #AngloConcertina for a month or so at the start of the year this week I have bought my own. It’s not perfect, but it is not at all bad and was nicely priced. It is a #Lachenal and dates to around 1900, but we can’t be too precise as it is a “marriage” box which is apparently what #concertina people call a cut-and-shut assembled from several donors to make one working box.
As if I don’t already play too many instruments (badly)…
