I just added a page to my website for consulting. This used to be its own whole website, but at this point in my career I'm trying to blend my work as an artist and scholar with my other life as a creative services provider ... and so, here goes! The consulting page is live! https://ramblersjournal.com/consulting/

New #introduction for the new folks! I #amwriting #magicalrealism #fiction. I'm a #scholar and a #folklorist. I'm an #artist. I've consulted in #branding and #strategy for 15 years. I just got a masters in #anthropology and #history because that's what I'd like to focus on, moving forward. You can find my #art on patreon.com/independentpen, along with lots of other stuff – public talks that I give at conferences and such, and some of my fiction read aloud, and my #poems.

Probably a good time for another #introduction...
I'm a Welsh #folklorist and #author with expertise in #ghostlore and particular #academic interest in the appearance of #spirits in the Welsh tradition.
I've recently co-authored 'The #Folklore of #Wales: #Ghosts' with researcher and podcast host Mark Norman, which is due out Sep 28 with Calon books.
I'm also an #antiquarian book collector, with a #library of some of Wales's rarest folkloric texts.
#Cymraeg iaith gyntaf; expect a bit of both.

14 years ago yesterday I was knocked down by a double-decker bus. I fractured my skull in three places, broke a rib and was pretty traumatised but - spoiler alert - I didn't die. (I subsequently found out that it wasn't the worst thing medically that was ever going to happen to me, so, y'know, perspective).
14 years ago today, when I was kind of sitting up in hospital, albeit rather dazed, my partner got my Facebook password to post a message telling my friends the score. A dear #folklorist friend wondered aloud whether this might not be some April Fool's research experiment. It wasn't, and he's remained mortified to this day.
There's no reason to share any of this, I guess, but it comes back to me sometimes.

Just seen that it's the great Emily Lyle's 90th birthday today. What a fine scholar.

Hey #folklore peeps, I thought I'd have another go at searching out some of the #academic #folklorist types who tried to follow me when this instance had its little glitch a while back, as well as other lovely #folklorists who may have arrived here since.
Hit me up with suggestions...

I had to go to Romford yesterday for a funeral, and was delighted to find East End pie and mash shops thriving there. (It's not surprising, as this is how the ripples of East End migration have always worked).
I was particularly happy to see thriving there Robins, which I long knew as a fixture on East Ham High Street South, and was sorry I didn't have long enough for lunch.
#Folklorist colleagues will know of my ambivalence to #IntangibleCulturalHeritage #ICH, but I find myself peculiarly amenable to it in relation to food condiments, like 'sauce' in Edinburgh chip shops. The realisation was triggered, of course, by thinking of the individual and traditional 'liquor' recipes used in pie shops. Oh, I'm just in the mood for eels now.

I've pinned and reboosted my #introduction, but I thought I'd have another bash round the potted summary of hashtags as I try to reconnect with stuff lost in the past few days.
#folklore is pretty much the most important to me - I'm an #academic #folklorist, do #fieldwork, think & write about #folkloristics, and really really REALLY like hanging out with/listening to other #folklorists.
I started off with #folk, #folksong, #folkmusic, ended up doing a PhD on #ghostlore #ghosts #ghost but love/am interested in all sorts of stuff, like #cannibalism, #rats, #folkhorror
Other important things:
#surrealism #fantomas #Dowland #Classics #Berlioz
Live on #isleofwight, like at the end of Day of the Triffids.

Hey y'all, my #introduction. I'm a #folklorist and writer based in Durham, NC, USA. My work focuses on the cultural heritage of the American South, especially the Carolinas. I also play old-time music (fiddle and banjo), and collect 78 rpm records and old photos.
I direct a nonprofit called the North Carolina Folklife Institute (ncfolk.org), which documents and supports traditional arts and artists; and I edit the Old-Time Herald (oldtimeherald.org), a magazine about traditional music.
Currently I'm collaborating with potter and historian Hal Pugh on a history of Southern folk #pottery, planned for release by @uncpress in fall 2024. We're also researching #gravestones and other #funerary folk art in the South.
My profile name refers to "For I will consider my cat Jeoffry...", the passage of Christopher "Kitty" Smart's 1760 religious poem "Jubilate Agno," in which he observes the workings of God through his adored and nonchalantly talented cat, Jeoffry.
