I see lots of fedizens posting helpful #feditips for newbies.

I've just emigrated to a new community here which looks like a nice fit for me. But rather than importing all my following/ers over decided to make a fresh start (kinda).

I followed a few of the most valuable posters here, but the thing I would recommend more than anything if you are coming from twatter - #FollowHashtags & use them mindfully. Even if you follow only a handful of accounts, you'll have lots of good stuff on Home feed.

My advice for new arrivals, because it seems to me a significant number of those who don't like it here are unaware of this:

#FollowHASHTAGS!

That's the thing about Mastodon.
You follow hashtags the same as you follow people. And that's how you get introduced to new people/things.

It's NOT about having huge numbers of followers. It's about connecting people.

Quoting doesn't work here, so don't miss it - that's just kind of stealing -> #boost or comment!

One of the things I really like about #Mastodon is being able to follow hashtags of interest as part of my timeline. Unfortunately only the web client has the follow hashtag functionality yet. Hope @ivory implements this ASAP. 😊 #followHashtags

Well i've got the hang of checking the notification bell on ALL the accounts I follow - now I won't miss the posts I have to scroll to find.

It’s my second sweep of following #Hashtags I like and my timeline is lit 🔥 #Mastodon #FollowHashtags #FuckBirdchan

So do I understand correctly that when you #followHashtags on Masto, you will not only see the hashtags that are already on your server via other users following, boosting or favouriting remote posts, like the federated timeline. But this new feature fetches all followed #hashtags from servers that are connected to your server.

Am I right? Proof? I get posts via hashtags from users that are not followed, liked or boosted by any fellow server member and my own followers. I think is great and I especially want a dedicated timelime for this. Maybe compared with the group feature.

I just learned how to follow hashtags. Turns out you can't use the phone app to do it. Not sure why. You have to use a web client either on a laptop or you can open a web instance on your phone.

Once you do that, click the hashtag icon on the right, search, then click the "follow" icon (as pictured).

@JRChilton I went looking for this feature this past week in the most common iOS apps. On my iPhone SE, Tooot does let you follow hashtags (see Follow link in screen grab). Toot! & Metatext don’t (so far). Would be nice to have it universally available! #FollowHashtags #Wishes
