We had a really interesting conversation with Tom Boothe, director of the film Food Coop. A couple of the things that stood out for me: Erin Dale Mclellan's comments on "somatic democracy"; Tom Boothe's summary of Charles Gide's four stages in the growth of a cooperative movement; and Elizabeth Jesdale's lament that in her food co-op they are still making rich people richer (the capitalist producers of so much of the food sold even in food co-ops).

This is a big test of the PSFC. I can't quite grasp how it is that a co-op with thousands of members who have a work requirement living in a densely populated city can't organize pick-up and delivery when in my sparsely populated town with no food co-op there are probably dozens of groups with little or no money organizing pick ups and delivery....???

Putting out the call for the Central Brooklyn Food Cooperative fundraiser again. I just attended a trivia night with them yesterday, and it was amazing to learn about the lineage of black-owned cooperative spaces in the city over the decades. Hopefully this can be an addition to that legacy!

They're by and for a mostly black community, and are going to be working to improve the links between regional farms and the city. Big ambitions for a food coop, and a welcome alternative to the often-less-revolutionary Park Slope Food Coop.
