A Nuthatch chips in, a Buzzard mewls, a Buzzard comes to sit in the dying Ash tree near to me. I scare it off with my worst Buzzard impersonation ever. A dragonfly scouts the perimeter, hunting. A Hornet flies through Bramble, bumping, hunting also. Thousands of grasshoppers, I mean, thousands. It's warm, humid, hazy, the weather will break.

M's excitement is understandable. This one of the first areas he concentrated his efforts to replace stripped pasture with #FoodForest about seven years ago. From that plot we now regularly harvest bamboo for our construction, cardamom, bananas and ocumo. Most exciting? His prized theobroma bicolor is about to flower.

There's nothing quite like seeing results, and #soil quality is the one we're looking for.

more vine removal tips on day ?? of vine clearing:

if you can find where the vine emanates from, you can cut a perimeter & then slowly shrink the circle (or circles).

i don't pull vine all day every day, but i do try to pull a little vine almost every day.

the vine expands, i trim it back, & the cycle continues. i merely surf the vine growth. the vine creeps forward, i push it back. it is a dance i do, me & the vine. fin.

Michael continues to make amazing headway on our #FoodForest slope, getting more cacao plants in the ground every day - along with banana, plantain, and a whole slew of other trees. Nowadays he's often accompanied by our toucan babies (they're actually collared aracari). They roam freely around the property, constantly surprising us in new and unexpected places.
