Why is healthy food so expensive in America? Blame the Farm Bill that Congress always renews to make burgers cheaper than salad

Another shout-out to #AnjaliPrasertong (the #AntiRacistDietician) - she makes me think with every article she writes, whether on #FoodEquity, #DietCulture, #FoodCulture, #Racism in #FoodPolicy, #FoodHistory, #CulinaryAppropriation, and more, and the intersection of #nutrition with all of it.
Some are serious, some are lighthearted (such as her #FridayJoy series), some just ask thought-provoking questions.
But I'm so glad I discovered her & want to get her name out. 📣

@ecol_chloe @timaeus Great collection already, Johannes. Chloe has a good point in saying that diversification (mostly, not always) leads to increased overall yields - a great effect next to the resiliemce you mention in point (3). Let's not forget that a main driver for monoculture and nearly any other decison a farmer (at least within the EU) takes is linked to subsidies. So not everything is due to the (only seemingly apolitical) sphere of the market logics but also to the political sphere and what landscapes and linked farming systems a society chooses for and is aware of. I think the role of "consumers" that are alienated to farms plays a big role here. This role is a consequence of the current retailer food-system. Where to begin?

I really want to freshen up my GMO and Organics lectures in my food policy class this semester. Any good new readings, short videos, etc. that you could recommend for undergrads?
It hasn't been long since #FoodPolicy gurus were raving about the effectiveness of food #labeling and #advertising laws in Chile. But it's now apparent that the effect on health is nil.
