4/🧵 But I always wondered what would happen if the workers there organized. I figured the progressive image would turn out to have the standard "except unions" caveat. The owner claims in other circumstances he would be excited to work with a unionized workforce. I guess we will never know.

3/🧵 From about 2008-12 I was involved in organizing in the food and beverage industry. Long before today's #StarbucksWorkersUnited and before even #FightFor15. We had meetings at Common Roots a few times. They offered a community room to non profits for free. We used it but I don't think mentioned precisely what kind of non profit we were. I'll actually miss the place a bit.

2/🧵 I don't have much to add. Seems like they think the owner's claim the place would have closed anyway is plausible. Still gross to close it even earlier because of #unionization if you ask me. And the events leading up to the workers' push to start a formal #CollectiveBargaining #union are gross too. They mention firings that look very much to me like #UnfairLaborPractices, or illegal retaliation for collective action.

1/🧵 Days after workers at Common Roots Cafe asked the owner to recognize their #union with a large supermajority of support, the owner abruptly closed the business citing ongoing financial difficulties. The workers have given their side of what happened. Please give it a read first of all before my take.
