In the afternoon of the first full day in #BannauBrycheiniog, we travelled to #Crickhowell or #Crughywel to climb #TableMountain, which is also the location of an #IronAge #fort. So, equipped with my #OrdnanceSurveyMap we made steady progress up the slopes, on #roads and then #footpaths, often across #farmland. The total walk was 12.5 km.
Approaching the summit, you can see that the area is covered with #ferns.

A few more pics from part 2 of #SlowWays Plymstock to Salcombe. Restarting at Bigbury was not ideal - no buses of course (except on a Tuesday 🙄) so getting there this morning was a mini adventure in itself. Three buses (miraculously on time) & a lovely 5.5 mile walk along the Avon Estuary to the ferry. The continuation of the SlowWay was 10 miles through a landscape of rolling green hills & coastal valleys characteristic of the South Hams. A cracking #holloway too.

Private vehicle usage must be halved to cut emissions, Climate Council says
"Australia should aim to reduce transport emissions by 75 per cent by 2030
Public and active transport needs to triple to meet that goal
Eighty-one per cent of trips are made in private vehicles across Australia, but the report says that would need to drop to 36 per cent by the end of the decade.
That would mean 49 per cent of trips would have to occur on public transport and 15 per cent through active transit.
At the moment the average Australian household has two petrol cars in the garage.

When a footpath has been used for many decades, on land owned by a local landowner - but classed, I believe, as 'common land' - can that landowner legally block it off and stop you walking the footpath?

A developer has scrapped plans to divert a 300-year-old riverside footpath through a hotel lobby after a public outcry that a right of way was being “stolen” and “sacrificed for private gain”.
L&G now guarantees that “from the hotel opening date the towpath shall be dedicated as highway for use by pedestrians for public access in perpetuity”.

NEW Walk 228: Tring Long Loop, 10.2 miles (16.5 km) with 210m of ascent. This lovely #walk, which circles round the town of #Tring, has great variety, with stretches along towpaths, excellent view points along The #Ridgeway National Trail, quiet #woodland #footpaths weaving through The #Chilterns, and a few pub options along the way. Directions, maps and GPS files all free to download on any device.
