This report is the first attempt to fully, publicly trace the connections between Xinjiang and individual nodes in the solar supply chain.

The result? Bifurcated supply chains, with ethical producers more likely to be shipping to the west & those with major sustainability concerns, like #RGE, exporting to #China (or #India).

There’s a risk that this #bifurcation of supply chains gets worse. #Europe new deforestation regulation, and coming #HRDD rules, will only increase traceability pressure on tropical supply chains. The US has been cracking down on goods made using #forcedlabor, with blocks up 38000% in five years.

Unfortunately, #Nazism is a distressing thing for many to see, whether managed skillfully or not.

Those people who know they lost family due to the #forcedLabor camps/mines, that served the #nazi regime and #industrialists in the last century are going to be distressed no matter what.

Back then many were apathetic to nazism, and the most wealthy even supported it.

Today in Labor History March 30, 1930: Three thousand workers, mostly African-American, began construction on the Hawks Nest Tunnel in West Virginia. The employer cut costs by failing to provide safety equipment. Additionally, bosses forced the men to work 10-15-hour days, often at gunpoint, without breaks and without masks to protect themselves from the silicon dust. Consequently, hundreds of workers died of silicosis. Possibly over 1,000 people, one-third of the entire workforce, died from silicosis, in one of America’s worst cases of mass workplace mortality.

The keynote today at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (#CBP) #ForcedLabor Technical Expo by Professor Laura Murphy,
Professor of Human Rights and Contemporary Slavery, was impressive and thought-provoking.

Towards the end of her keynote, she announced that she and her team are working on ".. putting together a free online supply chain tracing platform [...] to make it possible for you to do some of that [forced labor use] tracing for free [...] in a pilot version at the end of the year."

Looking forward to learning more about that work, and how that could be leveraged by the supply chain traceability community to do everything that can be done to shine a spotlight on and eliminate the use of Forced Labor in global supply chains!
