A #macrophotograhy shot of a specimen of #anthracite #coal.
Anthracite is the hardest form of coal, and has been metamorphized by heat and pressure.
Anthracite is by far the cleanest-burning coal, with the fewest toxic inclusions like #mercury and #lead, and produces the least carbon monoxide when burned. Thus, it is highly desirable in coal #stoves in homes, making it far too expensive for electricity production.
This #forcedperspective makes it appear as if a rectangular plateau looms over a plain.

#MacroPhotography is also an interest of Fox (the #photographer). #Minerals and #crystals are especially interesting as subjects, both because of their properties and how their shape and viewing angle reacts with light, but also because of the #geophysical and #geochemical forces that produced them.
In this #photo, you can see a partial #termination (crystal point) of an #amethyst (#quartz/#SiO2/#silicondioxide which often contains inclusions of #iron in the crystal).
#Forcedperspective is also an interesting aspect of macro photography.
