Healthy forests maintain, fertilize, and renew themselves. Typical residential landscapes embody a culture of separation that disrupts ecosystems, destroys habitats, and ultimately damages our own well-being. Nature has much to teach us! By mimicking healthy forest structure and function in our landscapes we can meet our own needs while regenerating healthy ecosystems for ourselves, and for our human and non-human neighbors. Edible forest gardening is the art and science of putting plants together in woodland-like patterns that forge mutually beneficial relationships. Join us for this virtual event with Dave Jacke, as we discuss the vision of forest gardening, some scientific background, and a few examples of edible perennials you can grow in your own garden.

On account of the fact I’ve designed #ForestGardens in different countries & clients like my work, I guess I am “internationally acclaimed”?! https://natureworks.org.uk/design

So this is my introduction. For many years I worked in amenity horticulture (parks, public gardens etc), until I did my back in, and now I have an indoor job, with no heavy lifting. I finally decided to learn how to grow things, and make compost, although I have no garden. I help a mate with his allotment, and do voluntary work at a forest garden (The Welcome Garden, near St Marys Chuch in Walthamstow). I'm learning about #permaculture #regeneration #gardening #forestgardens, and I love reading.

Anyway, to bring this #mammoth (!! very happy with this pun!) thread to a close: I feel it's here on mastodon that we are forging those connections, having these conversations. I would love to learn more from all those of you doing #permaculture, #indigenous rights, #forestgardens, etc - very much at the beginning of all this myself.
