It's kind of wild seeing folks not know about #ForkOff or why vanilla Mastodon doesn't support rich text formatting lmao
That was like a big event half a decade ago and I clearly remember it, but I guess that just shows my age on here. :alicesideeye:
@evemassacre Absolutely, and there seems to be a history of various folks trying to push collective governance of Mastodon. With only marginal gains (it's something, though). One key thing I only recently learned about: #ForkOff, the movement aka #forkofftogether
@aurynn @shlee if anyone would be interested in #ForkOff and #Florence again, I'd definitely be up for passing that torch forward.
I'm currently working with @gotosocial instead
Oh hohoho..this is some seriously ironic stuff. The country with probably the largest cyber- espionage capability in the world claims TCP/IP is so broken and insecure that they need to fork the Internet and start their own.

@sonniesedge Thank you, I needed an update since I left Mastodon for a while and I had no idea what this #Forkoff thing was. ^^
@SgtWoegerfenning @some_qualia@guillotines.masto.host
We once had @TrendingBot and then @hashtagbot@mastodon.social . Both seem to be dormant now.
And then we had this: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/271
That lead to this: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/7702
And that lead to #ForkOff.
... and now you're caught up on one of the most controversial topics in Mastodon.
(I'm trying to stay neutral in this telling of the story.)
Does anyone know of a Code of Conduct which assumes experience is subjective and focuses on how to reduce negative interactions cooperatively?
All the ones I come across focus on particular acts, and rely on bureacracy/admins for resolution.

I really hope #ForkOffTogether succeeds even though I'm not super likely to use what they create.
I just wanted to say that as somebody who vastly prefers "open speech" instances. I think there's absolutely room for more implementations in the fediverse, and I hope the #ForkOff folks will federate widely.
We are all building something totally new and amazing together, even though we have differing ideas as to what's best for our particular portion of it.
#forkofftogether #forkoff #fediverse
@zeitrechnen @kemonine @kaniini and if that were implemented in Mastodon. We have people crying and starting a #forkOff hashtag 🤭😂
@paulfree14 Welcome back!
A lot of things happened with the fediverse. Especially about Gargron and Mastodon development. He doing his own thing (like always), like introducing trends (eventually he reverted that). There are now talks about forking, just follow the hashtag #ForkOff (or not). You can read my opinion here: https://todon.nl/@jeroenpraat/100147812720439052 + https://todon.nl/@jeroenpraat/100147827634736989
In another news: #Github is bought by Micro$oft. Follow the hashtag #deletegithub for that
#deletegithub #github #forkoff
@yegortimoshenko@mastodon.social In other words, I think the comments were meant well, and it's another illustration of both how difficult it is to get that feeling across via text, and of how it's important that as users of text-based social media, it's best for everybody if we assume good faith until bad faith is clearly demonstrated. The #ForkOff issue could use a LOT more assumption of good faith IMO. @HerraBRE
