I love the charming feel of #FreeSoftwareGames. You can always tell how much of a labour of love these projects are.

(Usually) rustic graphics, lack of hand-holding, fast load times and sense of freedom really sets these games apart to commercial games.

The idea of developers coming together to create something purely fun, often with no practical use except to share and make others happy, really makes me smile.

#DicaDeJogo de hoje é o Unciv, um clone open source do Civilization V.

Gráficos simples mas quase tudo do Civ V está lá. Roda em android, Linux, Windows e Mac OS. Roda bem mesmo em hardwares antigos.

Pra celular ele é bem amigável pra quem tem interrupções no meio do jogo, ele pode ser fechado e volta de onde parou sem problemas.

@ademalsasa I'd add to that list:

• openTTD a GPLv2 licensed version of Chris Sawyer's Transport Tycoon Deluxe. While initially it needed the asset data files from the original game, it now has various free alternative high quality asset sets. It also introduced a lot of (optional) extra features.

• In a similar vein there is OpenRCT2, which is an open-source (GPLv3) re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2), expanding the game with new features, fixing bugs and raising game limits.

• For the Command & Conquer / Red Alert / Dune 2000 fans there is openRA, which is GPLv3 licensed. Not quite sure what the current state of the assets is, but last time I looked into it I believe they were freely and legally downloadable from EA/Westwood.

Laundred Sheep

3D Platformers! I can't get enough of them yet so few are released. A project that tries to mitigate this fact is Laundred Sheep. A completely Free 3D platformer inspired by the Blender Open Movie Cosmos Laundromat. The game is still early in development, but there are several levels to explore, items to pick up and enemies to avoid. This project will be interesting to follow!
