Yesterday’s adventure was the ! About a 7 hour steep hike with lots of security cameras and scary signs protecting the fossils from poachers… but totally worth to see how happy jr. was ❤️

If you’re lucky enough to do this hike I cannot recommend our guide, David Moore enough! At lunch we received a lecture of a lifetime what life in the Cambarian period was like, with gusto and humour while being so very encouraging and attentive to our young palaeontologist.

who could, say, compare processes happening today on land & those happening below water with what we see in the geological record. Likewise the Amphibious Being would be better able to identify , being familiar with life on land & sea. He wrote,

"It should, therefore, be remembered, that the task imposed on those who study the earth's history requires no ordinary share of discretion; for we are precluded from collating the corresponding parts of the system of things as it exists now, 🧵2

When and where did our ancestors first fashion footwear?

Ichnology, the study of fossil tracks and traces, can help to answer this unresolved question through a search for clear evidence of footprints made by humans who were shod – that is, wearing some kind of foot covering.

And I'm afraid that won't happen unless is abolished.

I've just realized I totally forgot to listen to @KateShaw 's most recent episode of strange animals podcast:
strangeanimalspodcast.blubrry.

it was a very good episode about psittacosaurus.

The most recent Common Descent podcast is a good summary of herbivores:
commondescentpodcast.com/2023/
Includes overview of early feeding traces, first on algal mats, then on plants, and the theory that herbivory was rare in the oceans prior to the Cretaceous. Followed by a nice overview of early amniote herbivores, and then the evolution of herbivory in Coelurosauria and (mammalian)
Carnivorans.

imagine you've spent your whole life saying "well, actually, that animal isn't a dinosaur, it belongs in [some other group]"

now imagine new fossils provoke new phylogenies, and then [some other group] is found to be within dinosauria after all!

which group gets dragged into dinosauria by new phylogenies?

3D-prints of a rare ankylosaur dinosaur osteoderm generated by Tom Hartman of the University of Nottingham. The original bone was recently discovered in the Oxford Clay and donated to the Nottingham Natural History Museum @GeorgeTheGorilla

I’ll be bringing these prints to to help illustrate a lightning talk about the new fossil.
