For #TravelThursday here's something from the UK as we sometimes travel here. Fountains Abbey was founded in the 12th century after a falling out among Benedictine monks in York led to 13 of them joining the Cistercian order and building the abbey in accordance with Cistercian architectural practice. By 1535 it was the wealthiest Cistercian monastery in the country. But then Henry VIII went dissolution crazy.

13th March 2013 - we visited the absolutely huge Fountains Abbey, in Yorkshire. Now a ruin, after Henry VII dissolved the monasteries, reclaiming much of the materials (including the roof lead) in the process.
I saw my first (live) pheasant here too.
Later we moved on to Easby Abbey where we found some snow, and some moss.
We ended the day at The George, in Piercebridge (not pictured).

Visited #FountainsAbbey on the weekend with friends for a birthday. Impressive grounds, and great ruins. Christmas is starting up, and there was a brass band playing in the depths of the ruin, like an elden ring boss.
Felt very Agatha Christie ish, walking through an old building, tuba et trumpet sounding off. A very fun day, if tiring by the end of it.

It was a beautiful day today at #FountainsAbbey in #NorthYorkshire . This amazing #Benedictine #Abbey is the size of a cathedral. I love this view and have been wanting to take a photo of it for decades... this was my first visit.
