I looked up Sui Zhou's title in the #FourteenthYearOfChenghua raws on JJWXC. He introduces himself as:

锦衣卫北镇抚司总旗，隋州
Jinyiwei North Town Fusi General Banner, Sui Zhou (via Google Translate)

旗 qí really does mean banner, like a flag (or a gonfalon 🤨) but also like the administrative division: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banner_(administrative_division). I kind of suspected that was the word at play here, but also I thought that was more of a Manchu term and wasn't used in the Ming?

Current #FourteenthYearOfChenghua status: I’m on chapter 4 and should perhaps be letting the historical references wash over me a little, trusting the writer and the translator’s footnotes to tell me what I need to know, but instead I am trying to cram Ming Dynasty history on my phone in a heatwave and my brain is crawling out of my ears. 😵‍💫

2. Fandoms I'm active in now:

#MDZS, novel-main, and very much not in the mainstream side of fandom. I exist in #SangCheng nation, with a bit of #NieLan for variety. Fair warning: I don't like CQL.

I would LIKE to be in the fandom for #FourteenthYearOfChenghua (SuiTang!) but haven't found much that is based on the novel (because while I liked the drama, I don't love it in a fandom way)

Reading other danmei, also love #FengQing from #TGCF

I consider myself forever in #CLAMP fandom

I would like a story about a smart young eunuch climbing the ranks of the inner palace until the emperor comes to rely on him and he becomes powerful outside the inner palace too, and then he has to contend with a whole new set of vipers (it’s ok: he’s a viper too!)

Basically, I want #FourteenthYearOfChenghua from Wang Zhi’s pov, I guess 😂
