A few times I've mentioned I believe in Eternal Recurrence, the idea that we live our lives over & over - instead of Groundhog Day, it's Groundhog LIFE. I wrote something about what makes this possible - the 4th Dimension. Obviously this is all speculative.

"once you see time as a spatial dimension, you can't unsee it" - a random fellow Mammot tooted yesterday. Its got me thinking:

I like to think of trees (3D) in this context as 2D slices. As I move up the tree in the third dimension the shape of the slice of the tree changes. I can only see a portion of the tree at a time in 2D, yet it fully exists in at least 3D - as I move my slice up or down the tree, I see branches, leaves, trunk, or roots.

If I think of a 4D tree, the 'slice' is it's existence at a point in time - like right now the huge maple out my window is leafless, 50 feet tall, and 3 feet diameter in trunk
but some point in the past, it was a seed, a sapling, a smaller tree, and at some point in the future it's falling down and dying
I see in 3D a 'slice' of the tree's 4D existence

I now wonder what the 5th dimension would be described as, and how extra-dimensional things project into 3D and interact with our scale of existence.
