I have broken the #FowlPlace algorithm. By blocking any bluechecks & advertisers, unfollowing anyone who is here, and zapping tweets from people I don’t follow that appear in my “For You” tab as “Not Interested->irrelevant” I’ve confused it so well that it can no longer provide me with 35 tweets per pull and the stuff in “For You” that isn’t from followers is totally random.
My quest to make my TWTTR account useless is progressing…
Someone I follow at the #FowlPlace just posted a picture of her grandmother’s (antique Rossi) revolver and I am now inordinately worried about the safety of someone I barely know.
Also: There is a concerted right-wing bigotry campaign against the leading candidate being run on TWTTR
@palecur They’re more important here than at the #FowlPlace because there’s no full-text search across instances (and for many instances, even locally,) the population is a bit sparse, and propagation is imperfect. Hashtags improve people’s ability to find toots *and people* that they enjoy reading but might otherwise never find.
I'd occasionally click through to the #FowlPlace to check on a couple of accounts that hadn't migrated away. Except my timeline no longer exists.
It's not my adblocker, it's not been deleted — I can see my own timeline and list of followers — and both the real and 'for you' timelines are acting like I'm a new user.
#WARNING for any fresh followers: I occasionally just say things like that. Back in the #FowlPlace I did this regularly to shed a certain sort of follower. Maybe more needed here, who knows…
It is blatant that they squashed #SOTU over in the #FowlPlace. Lots of related stuff trending, but somehow not the main tag.
Since I don't have IG or TT accounts, and have only ever had FB as a way to stay connected to extended family (the only choice,) My vote is obvious.
"Thousands of small developers may have to shut down free tools like #ThreadReaderApp or #RemindMe_ofThis, the Verge reported, impacting hundreds of thousands of followers who rely on small developers to build tools that help maximize their engagement with the platform."
This latest news from #Twitter is basically leading me to almost total disengagement from the #FowlPlace.
I have disconnected my blog from Twitter (I don't think I have posted from my site to Twitter since late last year). I still follow some Twitter users and lists in #Inoreader (mostly Twitter hold-outs). I suspect that will end too.
The end result is that Twitter becomes yet another service I have an account on, and mostly return to a couple times a year to remind myself how lousy it is.

#TIL: There are a lot of JS resources that pages at the #FowlPlace want to load from a host named 'ton.local.twitter.com' but that name DNE.

I did pretty much the same thing late last year when I started my #Twitter hiatus. I decided to shift as many of my #FowlPlace related feeds to my #RSS reader, #Inoreader:

One small thing I miss from the #FowlPlace is the easy identification of cryptobros, and thus the ability to silence hexagons as soon as they emerge, without even having to check their profiles.
@Fryto EN tech już siedzi tutaj od dawna. Nie mam skrupułów. Na #fowlplace już tylko raz dziennie sprawdzam powiadomienia i wrzucę linka, ale nie czytam timeline od tygodni.
It's Monday, so let me start the week with a blanket complaint about every Mastodon account that is nothing but automated reposts of their Twitter. I left the #fowlplace because I didn't want to be part of that stinking pile, and if I wanted to see what media folks were posting there it would be really easy for me to just go look. The most useless content is when they repost retweets that make us go to Twitter to have any idea what they're talking about. But the worst offenders are the ones who never engage here on Mastodon and are obviously running a write-only account. They seem to be just claiming space here in case they ever actually want to have a presence on the platform. There are plenty of these accounts who seem to think they can treat this platform as a safety net without respecting the people who are here for reals. Now, before I reply to someone, I look at their account and see if they have ever responded to any replies. If it's obviously a write-only account, I don't bother. I have unfollowed a bunch of those accounts, and am exercising more discretion about who I follow from now on.
I've been on #mastodon for two months now, and I think my favorite thing about it is how much people hate nazis here. I bailed on the #fowlplace two months ago when it went hardcore because that's when Lord Dunning-Kruger started letting the nazis back on and I didn't want to be on a nazi platform. I know there's no real replacement for what twitter used to be yet so I get why some folks haven't divorced it yet, but twitter isn't what it used to be either. It's now that bar that let one nazi stay so now it's a nazi bar. Two months ago, it was possible to think things wouldn't disintegrate as quickly as they did, but after watching journalists get banned while the worst of humanity (hello LibsOfTikTok) is given the spotlight, I'm positive I made the right decision to get the hell out of there. I'm sad and distraught that so many are still there at the nazi bar, chatting over drinks like it's the only place in town and it's only one nazi so what's the big deal. Mark my words, in another couple months, twitter will be nothing but nazi propaganda and people willing to look the other way. I mean, it already is that, but it's still possible for some to pretend "this is fine."

Re: last boost
I tend not to circulate stuff directly from the #FowlPlace (indeed, I filter them and only click through when I'm of a mind) but I feel that one in particular is worth breaking my general "no direct RTs" policy.
For example this God is not the funny and incisive God from the #fowlplace (who is here as @Tweetofgod). I don’t want to see the lesser God’s dumb posts.
Thinking on what I can only call "creeping desensitization," AKA the frog sitting in the pot of gradually boiling water. I've been on this platform less than 2 months. Recently I was mostly a #FowlPlace user. Has been years since I had much presence on #Facebook. But occasionally I do have to go back there for specific reasons, including support for clients. Yesterday I did, and .... 😩 🤮 🤦♀️ ‼️ How did we ever tolerate the fire-hose stream of ads & obnoxiousness?? I like to think of myself as
That the world is so full of failson techbros that #GlassOnion is not obviously _just_ about the #FowlPlace buyer is a sad indictment of the state of the world.
But at the same time, seeing Gay Southern Poirot exclaiming "you vainglorious buffoon!" with such power is a hell of a lot of fun in its own right.
