Small update on my custom #NAS project; Last week I officially factory reset the #Synology and have put it up for sale. Such a good feeling to finally be getting rid of that thing.

Last week I also got the #FractalDesign #PC case I had been waiting on a restock for, and I have transplanted the NAS over. Some final (SATA power) cables are expected to come in today so I can install the drives I used to have in the Synology. We're getting there!

Als ich meinen letzten Rechner in einem Fractal Design Define 7 aufgebaut hatte, war ich auch von der Größe des Gehäuses überrascht. Der Tower steht nun neben dem Schreibtisch, nicht mehr drunter (wegen der auch ordentlichen Breite, nicht wegen der Höhe). Würd ich aber immer wieder kaufen ...

One thing I didn’t realize was that the new #FractalDesign #North #PCCase only supports 120mm fans at the back, while I only had 140mm #Noctua fans. The top of the case supposedly does support 140mm, but the Noctua fans have have their mounts different, so wouldn’t fit.
So I ordered some new ones, which conveniently came in the same day as a new #NVMe drive I got to replace another in my #BTRFS mirrored system drive.
Now I have two identical drives, and my case is filled with ugly brown. Nice.

When yesterday turned into a positively unproductive day, I decided to make the best of it and transplant my PC over to the new #FractalDesign #North #PCCase.
It’s a bit smaller than the Define R6, as that one had a ton of space for hard drives. My original plan when I picked that case was to build my PC as both a server and workstation, but ultimately decided against it.
The new case is more suitable for my needs, and I like its aesthetic. Understated, and not out of place in a home office.

I.. may have just ordered a new PC case 👀

There's nothing wrong with my current PC case -- a big #FractalDesign Define R6, I like how it is "boring" and free of RGB. But then Fractal goes and releases their new "North" case and, well, look at it.

I like the white variant as I imagine it could blend in well with clean furniture. But the dark walnut just looks so nice. I'm sure a white with dark walnut would look stunning too, but that's not something they offer, sadly.
