So I've been reading Paolini's #FractalNoise. On the one hand, it's easily his most "mature" book, in that it's not shamelessly cribbing off of half a dozen SF/F classics.

On the other hand, it's also kind of a miserable slog, featuring unpleasant characters making stupid decisions, and not in an entertaining fiasco sort of way.

Careful what you wish for, I guess?

Sleigh ride in a blizzard through hostile terrain with a cast of conflicting characters. It has twists and turns, and an escalating series of conflicts amongst the crew with periods of tense action but with no grand payoff at the end.
