@Alex_D Installed KDE Plasma and trying that now in place of Cinnamon and I think it does seem to handle fractional scaling much better!

So someone at work was going to toss an 17" mbp that was 10 years old. Screen works & battery heatlh is 80% but it can't run latest macos anymore.

Specs:
16GB ddr3
2880x1800 resolution
Nvidia GT650M/intel integrated graphics
512GB ssd.
i7-3720QM cpu

is working beautifully on this as an extra PC.

I was able to turn off the nvidia graphics for better battery life and use native resolution with 200% font scaling.

If I enable (150% would be much better) I get a "viewport" of the screen and have to drag window to the edge to move around and "see" the whole screen (as if I'm zoomed in).

If anyone knows if there is a fix for this, please reply.

if you can to avoid

The default resolution is too dense on the Pinebook Pro, so I had to:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']"

And then set it to 150% in the display settings.

If you do that and use Firefox, it will appear blurry so edit the firefox.desktop file (/usr/share/applications/org.mozilla.firefox.desktop) and change the exec line to:

Exec=env MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 firefox %u

You:

- have a laptop with a 13" screen and 1920x1080 resolution and a 4K external monitor

- run the laptop at 1x scale

- run the 4K screen at 2x scale (pixel doubled)

- are on elementary OS 5.x (Hera) or elementary OS 6 (Odin)

- want to be able to read what’s on every screen whether the external screen is plugged in or not

You need this script:

You’re welcome :)
