I’ve been learning #French for the past few weeks from a tutor. So far we’ve covered letters and each of their sounds and numbers one to twenty-one. She’s told next class, on Thursday, is when the math starts. I told her I’m not really good at math. She said she isn’t either but that after a while the way the #Francophone think of numbers starts to sink in. I’m excited to learn more about culture too. I now know Paris is divided in boroughs, just like Manhattan.

@liztai @anirvan lots of great points! When I rebuilt my follow list here, I made a point to not follow people resharing too much of the US drama. Im in Canada and my first language is French, I just don’t need that much US politics in my life. I purposely don’t want to live there so why expose myself to it. I joined a French speaking/Quebec based mastodon server, which also helps. The challenge of course is that the #francophone community on 🐘 is smaller so it will take a while to rebuild.

Today in 1827, Octave Cremazie was born in Quebec City.
Called the Father of French Canadian poetry, he was recognized during his lifetime for poetry and his role in the cultural development of Quebec.
He influenced several future Francophone poets with his work.
