#Paywalling access to standards isn't open - compared to that the anti-competitive #SSPL #license is open despite being designed to make it impossible to do any commercial offering with it (it's worse than #AGPLv3)...

I could at least understand if they said "Available for Licensing under #FRAND terms" if everyone gets to pay the same flat fee...

Essentially, #EU Commision Thierry Breton is basically explaining how lobbying (especially from German car makers) is about to utterly screw over all #patent owners and severely weaken protection for inventors in all technolgy sectors.

He ended this presentation with this statement: "perhaps the only people who will complain about this are acting in bad faith".

America and UK will be rubbing their hands in glee over this.

Ah yeah, but the day to day running will be fine, right. No, it absolutely won't be.

#FRAND and #SEP negogiations are hugely valuable and complex. They lead to massive, evidence-packed, and commercially sensitive patent lawsuits that are a nightmare. (Google "unwired planet frand")

The #EU body allocated in the new proposal to consider this all, is called the #EUIPO. It has done precisely no patent-related work to date.

@carlmalamud Have you seen the #FOSDEM talk on the #EU #StandardEssentialPatents (#SEP) regulation, which might introduce a definition of #FRAND? It comes with a call to arms to join #ETSI lobbying.
