Franklin Booth Interpretive Color Study #3
6×9 in, c.a. 2020
I imagined this scene cold and fall like. This was my first attempt at being more subtle with overall color, and using high saturation at the focal point. Framing is my own within the larger Booth illustration.

I think I could have taken the atmospheric perspective further with soft edges. Attempted balance of colors vertically, and tension horizontally with the complementaries. I think I will revisit this one at some point.

Like many I'm enamored with Franklin Booth's pen and ink illustrations. They're such masterful examples of compositional design and value structure.
I liked the idea of using his black and white illustrative works for #InterpretiveColor studies in #watercolor. Having the composition and values taken care of would allow me to focus on color and general technique.

I'm really excited about this new book that arrived home today. Franklin Booth is someone I have discovered only over the last few years, but now I'll take a deeper dive into his work. I don't think we learned about him during my education.
