The Money Center Banks can repo their AFS under water debt at the #FRB at par, something smaller banks cannot do. The FHLBs are issuing bonds which are being purchased by the money market funds, so the money is being recycled back into the system. However at some point, this starts to creak. The community banks will be paying Fed Funds plus on those FHLB loans.

In which case they are going to get closed out as part of the unwind. You cannot have this one both ways unless a government bails the whole lot out or some consortium bails it out.
It is too big for the Private Credit market and the #FRB doesnt want any big bank buying it. So government is the only horse in town.
