TIL that Freeciv uses...A fandom wiki for large portions of its documentation. Agh! 😱
Somebody please help rescue them from that misery.

Remember to occasionally check for custom modpack updates with the modpack installer utility (often shortened "...mp..."). For freeciv-3.0 there has been new civ2civ3_earth ruleset available for some time. From the creator of the freeciv's default/civ2civ3 ruleset. #freeciv #modpacks
Freeciv 3D in the browser is now ready to be played by everyone on FCIV.NET! This is a version of the classic strategy game Freeciv.
The game is open source with an AGPL license.
Users of gkt3- and gtk3.22-clients should pay attention to "gtk3/gtk3.22 Fixed mixup in font size, causing size set in settings in points getting applied in pixels" part of the https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-3.0.8 . Means that with the same client settings, client may end displaying quite different size fonts compared to (buggy) earlier versions. #freeciv
At this point of countdown things look good regarding freeciv-3.0.8 release on Friday. #freeciv
You still need to wait for freeciv-3.0.8 a bit longer, but our focus is shifting from active bugfixing (it's a bugfix release in freeciv-3.0 series, not a new feature release) to testing. List of things already fixed since 3.0.7 can be seen from current draft of https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-3.0.8 #freeciv
Available S3_2-alpha1 deliverables listed in https://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=94077 #freeciv #alpha
We aim to run major release cycles about two years apart. Freeciv S3_1-alpha1 was released 2021-05-29. There should soon be news for people to whom 3.1.0-beta2 is not bleeding edge enough. #freeciv
flathub-beta has flatpaks for both org.freeciv.gtk322 and org.freeciv.qt of 3.1.0-beta2. #freeciv
Freeciv-3.1.0-beta2 is even better than beta1 was. Get your source code from https://www.freeciv.org/download.html, or wait a bit (day or two) for Windows Installer and flatpaks to become available. #freeciv #release
Every once in a while I stumble over a version of Civilization and am tempted.
Then I remember #freeciv and I am good. Everything I want out of Civilization is provided by this open source version. 😏
As freeciv 3.1.0-beta2 release should be coming really soon now, list of changes has been created: https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-3.1.0-beta2 #freeciv
As freeciv-2.6 is older release series, it lives in https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/Old_downloads nowadays. The 2.6.9 release from that series, on the other hand, is just minutes old. (source code available, Windows Installers coming later) #freeciv
People still enjoying freeciv-2.6 will get 2.6.9 soon. See https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-2.6.9 for the list of issues fixed in it. #freeciv
Our recommendation is that you go to https://www.freeciv.org/download.html to grab the very fresh freeciv-3.0.7 source code release (Windows installers coming soon) #freeciv
Do you hear it? Is it... an approaching release? Contributors list updated with people who made 3.0.7 possible. https://www.freeciv.org/wiki/People #freeciv

Facts that freeciv-3.0 defaults to hex maps and civ2civ3 ruleset keep scaring square tile map and classic ruleset fans. Reminder: The only change with these is what is the default. Square topology and classic ruleset still work just like before, if you choose to use them. #freeciv
freeciv-3.1.0-beta1 now also in flathub-beta. Freeciv client is known as org.freeciv.gtk322. See https://discourse.flathub.org/t/how-to-use-flathub-beta/2111 for help of using flathub-beta. #freeciv #beta #flathub
With freeciv-3.1, we are starting to make MacOS builds of our own again. Head to https://www.freeciv.org/download.html to grab 3.1.0-beta1 for MacOS to test what we've currently got. #freeciv #beta
