So much of freelance work is simply when you reach out to someone on the right day. When you have a solution to their needs on that day.
The flip side is that often your pitch might be great, but they're too swamped with other deadlines to take it in, or they already have it covered.

@ianRobinson if your #freelanceLife is anything like mine, itβs probably non-billable internal work and *shudder* bookkeeping?
After taking yesterday mostly off, and still not being fully recovered, I'm not 100% sure I'll be coherent during this afternoon's interview. But, I've written a few short book reviews, paid a couple of bills, made a couple of calls, had coffee and breakfast, and gotten things all set up for the interview. At some point, I'll need to get dressed. #TuesdayThings #work #FreelanceLife

today in #freelancelife: writing a letter of support for funding to an organisation, but only after they paid my overdue invoice
FINALLY got paid for a piece of work I did 3 months ago, after submitting a claim to the small claims court.
Got a slightly panicked email from the late payee today asking whether I will now drop the claim.
Pretty tempting to just ignore the email for 2 months, then send a reply reading "Sorry, I don't have any record of this in my system"
Hello, people have been paying my invoices. That shows the right attitude.
Me, aloud, while writing copy: βItβs boring as shit, but Iβm pretty good at it.β #FreelanceLife
Restarting client work after a holiday... it's exciting but also there are bits that just hurt. #freelanceLife
Kicking off this busy day, or trying to. It's taking my eyes longer than usual to wake up (they always water and don't work quite right for a little while in the morning). Today's list: work on a blog post, a small assignment, and some networking stuff until 11, then an intensive training, lunch, yoga, and picking up my girl for a sleepover (summer is the best!). #Wednesday #ToDo #work #FreelanceLife

In today's #FreelanceLife adventure, I am trying to convince a major American corporation that one of their established work processes is bad and they need to change it.
Wish me luck. π
@biancanogrady A couple of years ago I got food poisoning, fainted on the way to the toilet and hit my head. Had to be taken to emergency by ambulance. I was back home by early morning and went right back to work translating. Even made my deadlines. Our #FreelanceLife can be hard, but it also allows us to bypass the demands of commuting and office politics, etc. That said, please take care of yourself as you must, and don't sacrifice your health for your work.
Trying to convince myself that a crippling episode of acute lower back pain is a perfectly good reason to not get much work done today.
If I worked in an office, I wouldn't even be able to get to work and I would take a sick day.
But because I'm a freelancer working from home, I feel like I should still be trying to get stuff done.

I like this client I am currently working with for a book editing project. It's already our second collaboration. My only complaint is that they have a habit of messaging me at 11 p.m., which is way beyond my available hours that I've clearly indicated in our contract.
On the bright side, I also have a habit of not responding to their messages at that ungodly hour. Win!

It's a nice feeling of accomplishment to send your 50th invoice to a client (and, to be clear, to have had all 49 before paid in a timely manner). #freelancelife
God damn I'm having trouble getting paid for some #freelance work I've done
The invoice is so overdue I am planning to reissue it next week with a late fee (the original invoice clearly stated I would do this)
My question is, they've issued me a PO number for each invoice
So do I just reissue the same invoice with the same PO number, or issue a new invoice just for the late fees?

Today, I'm deep into a task that I usually despise -- searching for potential prospects. My process is tedious, but usually pretty effective. I build a database of prospects including company name, contact name/email, LinkedIn info for both company & contact & notes that may be useful. Once I have a good number, maybe 50-100, I start sending out letters of introduction and connecting on LI. I've only got 15 contacts so far. Sigh. #freelancelife #marketing #business

I give past me a lot of shit, but every now and then I find some documentation I did back in 2014ish and it really saves contemporary me a lot of grief and I think maybe that kid wasnβt all bad

Well, I'm a little more than halfway done with this absolute waste of my precious time on this earth.
I am fuelled purely by tea and rage today. π
Today I am #subtitling officially the worst film I have seen in my career to date. The writing is horrible, the characters are unlikable and the plot makes no sense. It's not even funny-bad, it's just bad.
Today is going to be a very long day. Send help and/or vibes. :-|
