Uh-oh. My #freenas ( #truenas) box (ancient HP Microserver with 2 x 2TB spinning disks) just sent me this alert: “Pool NAS state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected..”

Sounds like disk failure in the RAID pool. Never tried to replace one before. Welp. Any tips?

Second disk being replaced, one more disk to go after this. Probably in around 4 weeks from now the #RAID will then be fully replaced.

I've been using #TrueNAS / #FreeNAS for about 10 years.
Recently I switched over to Linux (no, not TrueNAS Scale) and migrated my encrypted #ZFS datasets and volumes.
It mostly was ez but there were also some obstacles. Currently I'm mounting everything with a small shell script. The automount mechanisms don't work for me just yet.

@vwbusguy Definately, good idea. I used to use mpd and had clients everywhere, phones, tablets, kodis. Haven't used such in years. Never thought of putting music into #nextcloud, as I mostly consider it for syncing stuff around. It already sits in container on #freenas where the music is anyway. I just haven't bought a single record since streaming appeared, so no new music at all for a decade.

Spent a good portion of my morning debugging why on Earth #Sonarr stopped starting on my #FreeBSD box — I went through downgrades of mediainfo and libmediainfo and all sorts of backup recoveries only to find this: https://github.com/Sonarr/Sonarr/issues/5464 And yeah, sure enough, downgrading #SQLite to 3.40.1 fixed it.

tl;dr for people running Sonarr on FreeBSD or #FreeNAS / #TrueNAS be sure to lock 3.40.1 version of SQLite and don’t upgrade it for now.

Today is #NAS upgrade day in my home office lol.

I have my main NAS which currently has 2x16TB, 2x10TB, and 2x6TB WD Red Pro 7200 RPM drives.

I also have my offsite NAS in for HD upgrades and a proper data re-sync.
That one is running 6x6TB WD Red Pro drives and I'm replacing the first two with 2x16TB drives.

I also just upgraded my office #FreeNAS Mini from 4x2TB WD Red Pros to 4x6TB WD Red Pros.

The Mini is already running #TrueNAS 13. The others will be too when I'm finished.

From reading some of my posts you've probably gathered that I like to reuse old #tech as much as possible.

Below is a blog post of mine from 2 years ago where I did that with the original #FreeNAS Mini (circa 2012), which is still going strong next to my desk today.

I have an upcoming idea/project for this Mini (at some point), so I thought people might be interested in a little backstory first.

I want to migrate my last #FreeNAS Core machine to TrueNAS Scale, but it wouldn't be a such an easy migration because the way that NFSv4 exports are done it will break my #K8S cluster :(
