Either the Freespace fandom has no presence on Mastodon, or I'm just not reaching them. Could be both, actually. Anyway, I finally got around to actually printing that Shivan I posted a while ago.

I've done it like 7 or 8 times by this point, but it still surprises me that I can just print stuff I made in Blender like this.

FreeSpace was released 25 years ago on 19th March 1998.

Back in the late 90s, starfighter combat games were a pretty substantial genre. X-Wing and Wing Commander being the clear leaders, but FreeSpace managed to make a name for itself as well.
FreeSpace 2 came out just one year later with huge improvements to the engine and became widely considered the best game of this type, but also turned out to be the last major release of the genre.

No surprise to anyone who follows me but I'd choose either #Carmageddon, #PanzerDragoon Saga or #FreeSpace. Red Faction would be a close fourth, by which I mean the OG GeoMod based FPS Red Faction, not the third person pre-fractured-buildings red faction

Jeeze. I thought finding references for Bloodborne's Amygdala was hard. Try finding any for these little bastards who get about 15 seconds of screen time in a low-res 1998 CG cutscene from a relatively obscure game.

I was thinking about remaking a couple of old comics I drew back in 2009 (where I'm pretty sure I may have become the first person to ever actually draw Freespace's Shivans.) Also might print it. We'll see.
