Kettles and frying pans feature in common English idioms, several are to do with pots but none ttbomk mention saucepans. French has raisonner comme une casserole, traîner une casserole and passer à la casserole, all unflattering to saucepans and defying easy translation. I wish people would not translate things word for word. You have to get at the real meaning. Example: French tant pis, tant mieux. Correct translation: now that my aunt has relieved herself she feels much better #FrenchLanguage

I'm one month in on my New Year's Resolution to work daily on #FrenchLanguage, #Photoshop, and #OilPainting. I've been faithful and my progress is most noticeable on Photoshop. I went from fearful and cringing whenever I had to use it for my work to feeling comfortable, and today I spent almost the whole day "playing" with it and having fun. 🎨

Started my #FrenchLanguage lessons today on Rosetta Stone.

Cleared off 3 days' worth of lessons in one go. It feels like it's starting me off super easy, but that may just be because this is my 4th or 5th significant attempt to learn the language.

Despite growing up in Northern Ontario, with 2 francophones to raising me and a sibling in French Immersion in school, I've always had a lot of trouble with the language.

Fingers crossed, it goes better this time around!

And today I learned a new word in French. Tamiser, which, when it comes to the light, means to soften the light. But literally it means to sift. I love French for such words, to sift the light. In Polish it would sound really nice, przesiać światło. Może jest lepsze określenie, rozproszyć, ale to nie całkiem to. Beautiful. #Language #FrenchLanguage
