You might expect Claude Chabrol’s Blue Panther to be a lighthearted 1965 eurospy romp but it isn't. Chabrol is trying to deconstruct the genre and play other similar games. If that appeals to you you'll love the film. If not, you'll be bored.

Lots of the themes like capitalism, corporate espionage, dark web, human trafficking, sexism, tech bubble.. hentai *cough* are more relevant than ever. Although made in the early 2000'es the cinematography, editing feels actually more like a 70'es thriller, with a few glimpses of film-noir. #Demonlover 6/10. -

Jean-Luc Godard's Alphaville (1965), a weird disorienting dystopian sci-fi secret agent hardboiled pulp arthouse B-movie homage. The plot makes no sense but it's a strangely enjoyable oddball little movie quite unlike any other.

Roger Vadim's Love on a Pillow (1962) is a psycho-sexual melodrama starring Brigitte Bardot. It deals with freedom versus responsibility, free love versus marriage.
This is Bardot in a more serious complex role (moving away from her early romantic comedies) and she's superb. Great movie.

Marcel Carné's Hôtel du Nord (1938), a perfect example of 1930s French film noir (or poetic realism). A young couple decide to spend their last night on Earth in a cheap hotel in Paris.
A superb movie that works on both an intellectual and emotional level.
