Ooooh, over Christmas break I made french onion soup from scratch. It turned out great, it was savory and warming. Funny thing was a few days earlier we bought manchego cheese for the first time, and didn't really care for it. But, broiled on top of the soup. Wow! It was a perfect pair. I would really like to make this next winter holiday break. Hmm, maybe I could even make my own beef broth.

In 1954, the Food News Department of The New York Times released a pamphlet simply called “Soups,” which had 20 recipes including those for minestrone, shrimp bisque and this #Frenchonionsoup.
