It's a smashing listen / read (I have the audiobook), far more compelling than most fiction you'll read, and I hope the research checks out.

I read a lot of historical fiction over the last few yrs-books focused on female heroines in WWII. The French Resistance always stands out. I learned much about the occupation of Paris, the Vichy govt as German puppets, etc. The book that stood above the others for me, and still sticks with me is #TheNightingale by #KristinHannah. Based on the true story of a French woman who took many Jewish children to safety. And most of the town helped. So good!

My first post here! #amreading A Train in Winter by Caroline Moorehead (an NYT notable book, 2011). One of the most emotionally difficult books I've ever read. Tells the stories of many women in the French resistance (and all throughout Europe), those who survived imprisonment and the thousands who did not, their amazing strength and friendships. The women desperately needed to know the world would know in full detail what happened. An intense and essential book to read. #WW2 #FrenchResistance

I just finished The Whalebone Theatre and it was so good I bought the book because I want to read it again. I don't think I've ever read a book twice. Joanna Quinn is that good of a writer.

Today I learned Marcel Marceau was a Jew, a Holocaust survivor and active member of the French Resistance.
