The lady of the stream, grayling. With its grace, elegance and style this freshwater fish is a true beauty and I have a particular soft spot for filming it. They have amazing eyesight and use that with pin point accuracy when feeding in fast water. They are very susceptible to pollution due to having small livers.

75% of all my filming of sewage discharges from the bank and in water are filmed in either light rain or dry weather when it should only be exceptional weather events. Every river dive I undertake in England I encounter pollution. Fish tend to be more in pockets in rivers locally to me. Sadly this is a common occurence within rivers and is a national problem. Rivers are more than just flowing water.

The life that lives within our rivers is not on beautiful but quite remarkable. These grayling aptly named the lady of the stream due to their style grace and elegance are absolutely stunning. It truly is an honour to spend time laying in the water with these fish and to be transported on a marvellous journey. I have been filming underwater in the #freshwater environment over half my life. This alien world is not only unique but irreplaceable. In May I finally managed to film the entire process of barbel spawning underwater. The energy the female barbel use is incredible. Filmed the redds afterwards which was hard to imagine under that gravel was thousands of eggs. Rivers truly are amazing places the underwater world is quite unique. In this picture the male and female barbel are just getting into position.

River filming and collecting sewage sanitary litter from discharges for a 2 part documentary due out in spring next year on TV. Unfortunately can't say anymore but it is one not to be missed. Update nearer the time. Every single underwater filming session I do I encounter some type of river pollution. Instead of striving to move forwards we are moving backwards. Rivers = raw deal.

Same river but on 2 separated days filmed 50metres apart. Saturday filming grayling, Sunday with no rain the after effects of a sewage discharge in the river wharfe. This river including its tributaries had over 13,000 hours of sewage discharged into it in 2021. 75% of our filming of sewage is in dry weather or minimal rainfall. This is called progress.
