Leptirica (1973)
Đorđe Kadijević (director)
Yugoslav vampire/folk horror film.
Really enjoyed this! From the fun loving villagers to the hairy vampire. Great look at another culture's variation on a familiar creature.

Take Back the Night (2022)
Gia Elliot (director)
Decent monster movie that takes its point very seriously. Lots of anger and personality in this one.

The Black Phone (2022)
Scott Derrickson (director)
Ehh... it's okay.
The family drama and school bully parts are the best.
Lack of threat coming from the villain is kind of a huge problem. I mean, he's only "scary" because we know he's a child killer.
Don't know if it's the script, director, or both, but it tries to be heartfelt and inspirational with the material around the two lead kids. Their performances are good and that's about it, really.

Messiah of Evil (1973)
Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz (writers/directors)
Surreal mood piece of '70s horror. A California town version of Lovecraftian doom.
There's nothing else quite like it.
