The #victronenergy Phoenix inverters with eco mode are great to run a #fridge #offgrid e.g. from an old car battery charged from #solar panels ; this 12 | 500 just draws 65mA in eco mode (not inverting). The inverter powers on the AC output in configurable intervals and keeps it turned on as long as the power draw is above an adjuatable power level. As a modern fridge runs with a duty cycle of approx 20-30% the standby power consumption of the inverter affects the overall power consumption a lot. Fridge compressors draw a lot of initial power, so in my case I needed a 500W inverter (1kW peak) to drive a fridge that draws 60W during normal Operation.

Working fine again! Figured out how to make the template visible. Sealed the tiny hole. #Electronics #homebrew #fridge

Gah! Personal #Hilary damage. It turns out the waterproof box housing my #DIY retrofit electronics for an outdoor brew #fridge is Indeed waterproof.. and was full of rainwater! (Somebody had the bad idea of putting the cable entry on top... and failed to seal it!). Just burned 3 hours fixing it.

It took my #refridgerator \ #fridge 24 #minutes to #cool #down from 9.1°C to 7.0...
(I had it set to 8°C->7°C b4, but it #annoys me sm 😓)

Retrofitted #fridge. Pulled the signal and power out of the small space where the old controller lived. Routed to waterproof box on the side, where the new controller and power converter are stashed. Too small to see the display, so that requires flipping it open and pulling it out. May change that later if it bugs me too much. Double stick foam tape and aluminum tape holding it there for now, until I determine where the tubing is routed. #homebrew #electronics

Ha, and yikes! The #fridge door fan switch (evaporator fan) on this #diy #project ends up is 120V AC. Could have used that to power this temperature controller rather than doing a 5V to 12V conversion. However, can't use the controller (directly) to power on/off the evaporator fan, like it is supposed to, because compressor on/off is 5VDC, fan on/off is 120VAC. #electronics (ps. this is why you don't touch those wires unless you check 'em first).

Well, that worked! Ran it for a few minutes and instantly down below 70F. Compressor/controller working! Now to figure out the mounting of the controller. It actually fits the old controller hole but extends a few inches out. Thinking I will mount it there anyway and build out a protective housing on the outside with wood. Or mount on top. #project #diy #fridge #electronica

Putting the setpoint high, 70F, just for testing. Might use this for my #mead, which is fermenting at a higher temp than desired... from info from @n6cta I see you want fermentation at below 70F for better flavor and less harsh alcohols. #electronics #fridge
Figured out how to #hotwire this new outdoor #fridge. 5V to the right place turns on the compressor/fan. But no convenient AC or power supply for the ITC1000 controller, only 5V up here in front. #electronics #inkbird #homebrew

Nice, looks like you can buy all kinds of custom #replacement #fridge/#freezer/cooler #gaskets even if they are no longer available from the manufacturer.
#1 white wire is the temp sensor. You can disconnect the end of this from the connector and it complains the sensor is disconnected. #2 is two lines, and clearly (since nothing else connects) it is the compressor on/off relay. For this, I will cut the wires on #2 and reroute them to the new controller, and put the new controller's thermocouple inside. Only one problem with this entire thing and mods: it's stainless steel... built like a tank. #fridge #electronics #hacking
