I've been using #Zoneminder for years, but I tire of its constant high CPU usage, ancient motion detection algorithms, etc. So far, #Frigate, #iSpy, and #Shinobi look interesting. The #HomeAssistant integration in them is a plus, and #Frigate has ML offload to a TPU (available as a USB dongle) for dramatic reduction in CPU and power usage (and more sophisticated detection; differentiating cars from people, etc.) #AskFedi

I decided to play around with my #Homelab again and added some #Tapo TC70 cameras and a #Frigate with #MQTT to #Homeassistant. Its a pretty cheap solution that works. I was impressed how good the infrared mode works. They also keep working after blocking them at firewall level so they can't talk to their cloud endpoints. Now i just need to find a proper solution to keep them up to date.

TIL: #Frigate filters under the objects section is very helpful when weeding out false positives. You choose the object type and then add masks and motion will not be tracked. At night the IR from one camera was illuminating flowers seen by another camera and Frigate thought it was a person. Filter masks have been really helpful. My motion masks are my filter masks.

Just replaced my #reolink Argus Pro 3 with a RLC-811A POE bullet camera. Happy to have a properly powered camera. Now to get it hooked into #frigate and #homeassistant

So what have I been up to over the weekend. Well -

I finally found a use for my #RaspberryPi and the official 7" touch screen. It is now running #WeatherFlowPiConsole. But to save electricity costs, #homeAssisant will send an mqtt command when #Frigate detects a person in the livingroom. Which #NodeRed will intercept and run a script to turn the display on and start the program. 30 minutes after presence was last detected HomeAssistant will send an mqtt message to turn the display off and -

Got my #reolink Duo WiFi 2 Flood wired up this morning so I can have a more stable connection. Hopefully, this will make recordings to #frigate and notifications to #homeassistant faster.

Gonna have to wait a few days, due to rain, to replace my Argus cam with a POE powered camera. Now I need to rewire my network to free up a POE slot on my switch.

If you use #reolink battery operated cameras and still want to get them into #frigate and #homeassistant. Check out Neolink. https://github.com/thirtythreeforty/neolink.

It would better to get a proper Reolink camera that is not powered by battery but this is a good second option.

Finally got me a Google Coral Edge TPU for my AI projects.

Sadly I got the miniPCI version.

But I found an adapter.

把 #frigate 從 #HomeAssistant 搬到 #Unraid ，看到耗電量只能搖頭。

原本在 Home Assistant 是安裝在 #RaspberryPi4B ，影像解碼用 Rpi4 的GPU，物件識別是用 Coral USB Accelerator，整機耗電量應該是5~7W，沒實際測量過。

換到 Unraid 上頭，影像解碼跟物件識別都是 Nvidia Geforce 1060 6GB。耗電量從 98W 上升到 118W，這能效實在太差了。
