Yes. '#Hairst' also means '#harvest' in Scots. Similar to '#herfst' etc in #Dutch and #Frisian. Basically comes from the term for 'harvest time'.

Growing up in the #Dutch #Frisian north the #Koplopers (head walkers) were the #trains you took for serious long journeys (locally we had the diesel #Wadloper units) to far away places like #Groningen or #Utrecht. Now they're just local Dutch trains I take to get to the international one :-) After four decades they still look sharp!

*Koploper: originally the three and four wagon units had doors that opened and allowed passengers to cross below the drivers cabin.

I have been collecting #dictionaries of different languages for decades. These are my latest acquisitions: #Frisian , #Kazakh , #Quechua and #Telugu . I am particularly excited about the Kazakh dictionary as it seemed impossible to get a decent paperback for that language at least in the last 10-15 years.

Some of the names don't get mentioned in English, so just for clarity: Vuur (fire), Regen (rain), Stoom (steam).

The main misunderstanding comes from the fact that Old English had two words meaning 'to buy' - bycgan and ceapian. Modern English only uses the descendant of bycgan, but West Frisian only uses a cognate of ceapian - keapje (pronounced like 'kee-a-p'yer') (#Frisian, #Westfrisian, #Frisistik, #Oldenglish).
