I was going through the Orc Caverns in #FrogComPosBand when I had my first ever blood red bad level feeling. This was only on level 31 so I felt fairly confident (foreshadowing) taking it on. Found a few very out of depth uniques and while killing a marilith one of them rounded the corner. I tried to bail and read a teleport scroll, but it failed. The subsequent water bolt (irresistible damage) took me from around a hundred HP to -76.

My paladin was lvl 28.

Made it to level 20 with my life magic Hermes Demigod Paladin in #FrogComPosBand. Got my first demigod power and as always I picked the one that gives resistance against all breath and thrown rocks. With big dragons being a killer of so many characters, I feel it's the best pick most of the time.

Other than that I found a good damage whip and started running through Angband after the first two intro dungeons. Hopefully I won't do something too stupid!

And nearly as soon as it began, my Chaos dragon run ends. I somehow flubbed reading a scroll of teleportation and ended up at -9 HP fighting Utamo the Cruel.

Maybe time to take a break from #FrogComPosBand for a bit. Suggestions for my next character appreciated for when I pick it back up.

My endless runs in FrogComPosBand continue, this time I'm doing a Chaos Dragon monster run, trying out the Death domain.

Dragon monsters are generally pretty strong, starting with decent melee and a good breath weapon that stays good the whole game. Downsides are the lack of equipment slots and how difficult it is to get rings from the start. Still, fun times and the death magic seems interesting once I get to the bigger spells.

My Death Sword monster run is going well. As might be expected, they're all offense. I'm level 32 and I only just got the basic resistances covered. It's nice having a bunch of random kinds of telepathy, but looking at the archive of other death swords confusion resistance comes really late, if ever. Looking forward to carrying around mushrooms of cure confusion while fighting the serpent, if I ever get there.

So my Filthy Rag monsters are dead. I had forgotten how rough the early levels are for rags. One, they don't naturally acquire speed so they're always at a bit of a disadvantage. Two, they rely on absorbing gloves with slaying pluses to improve their melee damage which don't come around very often in the early game. Three, they can only use devices for ranged damage. Also, leveling up only gives HP.

So now I'm trying out a Death Sword monster instead.

Well, my Angel run is over. YASD. Got paralyzed by a frumious bandersnatch while fighting the multi-hued centipede. Through free action and angel's extra high saving throw.

Got up to level 23 at the end, doing over 150 damage per round. Bleh. Time to take a bit of a break before starting up a Filthy Rag monster run.

Angel monster run going ok so far. I'm at level 15 and got the intro quests up to I Hate Snakes done. Using the whip from that quest. Really feeling the exp penalty this time around. Other characters are usually closer to lvl 20 at this point. Time to grind in Angband! (Famous last words.)

Well my golem is dead. Got confused in a small room and a bunch of orcs got summoned. Killed the summoner and was working my way out of the room to take them 1 on 1, but I wasn't watching my HP and ended up dying.

This proves the old rule, don't play when you're tired! I had so many ways out of that predicament but didn't even pay attention to the most important stat.

Next up, an angel monster run.

Level 17 and the compost heap quest done. Still at -1 speed but my one melee punch is getting better and better.

Supposedly the punch gains stun after a certain level (20? 30?). That should help with summoners later on. Time to dive into Angband a bit.

Giving FrogComposBand on the android port a try, a variant of #angband . Pretty cool with tons of added content compared to Angband. Although a bit overwhelming at times coffee-break mode makes it a bit easier to get into. Highly recommend!
