I’ve heard a lot of people sing the praises of C4FM’s audio quality, but I don’t hear it. It’s clear, sure, but it’s also warblely and sounds like a robot trying to impersonate a person’s voice. Like the old Macintosh text to speech program from the 90’s.
I’m on a Wires-X net right now and some hams I know are checking in, I can kinda recognize their voice but takes me a minute.
Inferring from the tech specs of the FT70D it seems it's 20K0 F3E vs 11K2 F3E (?)
So 20 KHz +/- 5 kHz vs. 11.25 KHz +/- 2.5 KHz. It seems the split between the two is for above / below 50 MHz via this source: https://www.fmuser.net/content/?1989.html
It's so weird that the default setting on the FT70D would then be for wide. It might explain why people tell me my voice is faint in spite of good signal (either that or I need to turn up mic gain).
I bought the CT-44 cable, and tried to use it in conjunction with one of my BTECH #APRS cables. This works fine with other, kenwood-styled radios for APRS.
Even when I hold the PTT, the FT70 doesn't transmit anything from APRSdroid.
Being the curious type, I plugged in a cheap earbud mic. The PTT button on the mic triggers the PTT in the FT70 but the audio doesn't come through.
Is my FT70 broken? If so, that's sad, I only got it in October.

@junkman how is it going a month later? I've been looking at the #ft70d/#ft70dr for getting into #systemFusion, but saw some stuff about poor battery life.
