Set up the #BuddiStick using my new BuddiMast yesterday while camping. Had a fought time getting swr down. Finally got it to 1.3 on 20M but no one could hear me, not even #CW reverse beacon network. Same on 17M at least 15M I was able to make a contact with Simon, MI0SAI, in N.Ireland from central PA. Using 6w #FT818 . RBN also heard me 2kmi away so that was redeeming. I noticed antenna height made little difference in SWR. Still need to dial in coil clips and antenna length.
Built a little powerpole battery pack for the 18650 #lifepo4 cells connecting via #powerpole for my #ft818. This is not going to last long ๐

Camping and tried my 6 watt #qrp #ft818 and #BuddiStick. I could hear the world but could get anyone to call back, especially the DX pileups with callers running hundreds of watts. I did get reverse beacon network to hear me on #CW which was cool. I need to get a small amp if I want to do SSB with this rig.
Cool moment improvised this afternoon with the #ft818, the EFHW antenna in the trees permanently installed, Unun home made and a 45Ah battery. Some QS0 with 4Z, I, OZ and one regret, YC1RCU on 10m but impossible to do. I then stopped, it was too hot in the sun and the coax was too short to go in the shade ๐ #hamradio
Had my first #QRP contact yesterday with EI0CL using #BuddiStick #FT818 SSB 6 watts 3,383 miles while on vacation from balcony in Nags Head NC
The last few days I wanted to find out if it is possible to do some DX with little condition. So I used my FT818 barefoot and my EFHW antenna hanging in the trees around my house. Result, 2 qso with Brazil, 2 others with Cuba and some European stations, this on 10, 12 and 15m. Next I think testing in portable when it will be a bit warmer on the snowy summits. I don't like the cold? The answer is yes! ๐ฅถ๐

Showing my FT-818 some love by using it to check into the Georgia AuxComm @GaAUXCOMM 60m net with a speaker wire dipole antenna. #ft817 #ft818 #qrp. Watch the video and see how well it works! https://youtu.be/R6z1afie0uE
Well, I "impulse bought" an #FT818 today after several months of thinking on-and-off about buying a portable QRP radio.
Looks like HRO and DX Engineering are out of stock as of this afternoon.
I learned this week that Yaesu announced the end of life of the #ft818, the one I bought 3 weeks ago is already a museum piece... That won't stop me from using it as an RX for low satellites and doing some QSOs on HF in portable. By the way, it's amazing what I can do with 2.5 watts and an efhw in a tree in the middle of nowhere. Obviously these are only European QSOs with very strong signals but it's pretty exciting.
Hello everyone! I got my technician license in May and will be getting my general next month. Iโve been playing around on 2m and 70cm with my #ft-60 and #ft818 but Iโm really looking forward to some HF #qrp. Not expecting to make a ton of contacts right away and thatโs fine. I would welcome any #advice on QRP /#portable antennas, or any other ham related topic. I currently have a #Z-817 antenna tuner but would like to build a ZM-2 ATU kit for fun. I normally donโt do social media.

My new friend since yesterday....
I plan to use it for low satellite reception (TX with a FT857 I already have). It will be a good companion too on hf when walking with an End Fed in the trees. #ft818
I used to carry my FT818 around in a flight-type case. Nice and light and well-protected, but the rig is always at the wrong angle when out portable; needs to be more vertical. Here's the prototype 'waste materials' carry-cradle, which is half the weight of the old case. Needs some fold-down legs and wire-tidy, but the idea works. #hamradio #amateurradio #FT818 #qrp

A 1923 Marconi VLF station insulator, still finding service, just not for anything remotely as important as its original purpose! Perfect circle size for part of a FT818 cradle! ๐ #hamradio #amateurradio #ft818

@MW1CFN Driving Subaru doesn't make me better driver than driving Lada. it's probably other way around.
Comparing IC-705 and FT-818 is comparing apples to oranges. Both are good radios in their usage scenario, but it doesn't really tell anything about operator skills. I love both rigs, but currently I only own 705.
Also comparing price is kind of dump. IC-705 is new radio with latest tech and FT-818 is re-release of 20 year old radio.
